Rønnede Kro

Since 1825, Rønnede Kro has had a central location along the old main road, which for generations has connected the capital with southern Zealand and the islands. The buildings were then erected by Gisselfeld Kloster, and the inn was royally privileged. The inn should therefore make itself available for serving spiritual drinks, accommodation for the traveling guests, and catering for the riders’ horses.

Over the years, the inn has had countless purposes, including as a post office, grocery store and telegraph station. To carry out these tasks, a total of 34 people lived in the inn in 1870, including the tenant with his family, a postman, a merchant, nine servants and two players.

Many great personalities have over the years visited Rønnede Kro. In the old guest book you can find greetings from among others Walt Disney, Dirch Passer, Bodil Kjær and Lily Broberg. H.C. Andersen mentioned several times Rønnede Kro in his letters, when it was here that he stood by the diligence when he was to visit the surrounding estates.

Rønnede Kro is today completely restored with respect for the inn’s history and relaxed style.

In the restaurant, the flavors are in focus and the menu is created in close cooperation with local suppliers to ensure a high quality at reasonable prices. The basic idea is to serve tasty food at affordable prices, as at the inns in the old days.

Rønnede Inn is today rented by Silje and Jonas, who also run Hotel Frederiksminde in Præstø and Hotel Baltic in Sønderjyske.

Villa Gallina

Villa Gallina must be one of Denmark’s most beautifully situated restaurants in the middle of Hesede Forest. The restaurant was built in 1852 as a “convenience place and a tractor place” and then served the area’s residents and travelers on the old country road from Næstved to Copenhagen.

The restaurant is built on two floors and shows in a magnificent way the special architecture and wood carvings known for the buildings on Gisselfeld’s grounds. From the large terrace in front of the stunning half-timbered house you can enjoy the view of the beautiful lake and surrounding forest.

Today, the restaurant is rented by Nicholas and Lise who run the place as both a la carte and company restaurant and serve quality food inspired by both the traditional Danish, Italian and French cuisine.
