Camp Adventure

Camp Adventure is a short drive from Gisselfeld Monastery. Camp Adventure is housed in one of Gisselfeld’s main farms, Brødebækgaard, which up until the 1960s served as a mill yard for the then great operation. Through the hilly ice age landscape in the forests at Brødebækgaard, Brødebækken turns, giving the forest and the surrounding landscape its lushness.

Today, Camp Adventure is a place for different and unique nature experiences. With Denmark’s largest climbing park, the beautiful boardwalk that runs deep into the forest and the newly constructed architectural viewing tower of 45 meters, the people at Camp Adventure welcome all age groups warmly.

Gisselfeld Kloster

Every year, Gisselfeld monastery has many interested visitors who all come to enjoy one of Denmark’s best preserved Renaissance castles, the beautiful castle park and the surrounding natural pearls. The name Gisselfeld can be traced back to the year 1370, but the red castle that you see today was built in the period 1547 to 1575 by Peder Oxe, Denmark’s mighty rigshof master. There have been garden facilities around the castle since then.

In 1705 Christian Gyldenløve, son of Christian d. 5, decided that Gisselfeld was to be made a monastery, where noble virgins and an abbess were to be associated with the monastery. However, these plans were never implemented, but the name – Gisselfeld Kloster – has since been hanged on.

The current castle park is at approx. 40 ha and was built in the late 19th century by the famous English garden architect H. E. Millner. An English landscape garden enriched with beautiful oases and botanical rarities that are quite adventurous to walk in.

Gisselfeld Kloster is today a commercial fund with a board of directors. Since 1699, the main building has been inhabited by the royal noble family Danneskiold-Samsøe, descendants of Christian the 5th son, Christian Gyldenløve. Part of the castle is today inhabited by the 12 chief executive Helene Danneskiold-Samsøe, who is also the first female chief executive in Gisselfeld’s history.

The castle exudes history of the manor house in Denmark, just as the castle houses the largest private porcelain collection in Northern Europe. It is possible to access the castle at pre-booked tours for groups.

Paradehuset

The parade house in Gisselfeld’s castle park is a beautiful orangery built in 1876 under the then chief executive at Gisselfeld, Christian Conrad Sophus Count Danneskiold-Samsøe. The parade house was built according to the latest English regulations by architect Herholdt’s drawings, as a greenhouse made of cast iron and glass.

A visit to the Parade House is like entering into a completely different world. A botanical breathing hole where all senses are pampered. The Parade House is a very special oasis that takes you on a journey among historical and exotic plants to the sound of running water and soft music.

In addition to the beautiful orangery, you can visit the house’s café and tea-salon “Nattergalen” and the Paradehuset boutique, where a large selection of hand-picked quality products is sold.

The place’s tenants, Stig and Greg are respectively. garden designer and landscape architect. Paradishaven & Svenske Kløften

In 1812, the second chief executive at Gisselfeld Kloster, Christian Conrad Sophus Danneskiold-Samsøe, established a nursery in Hesede forest, close to the monastery. In the beginning, trees and plants at the nursery were used in the gardens for farms and houses under the monastery. From 1846, the arboretum also functioned as a nursery for other manor houses and supplied blah. some plant material for the construction of the then Royal Copenhagen. Garden of the Agricultural University and the Botanical Garden in Copenhagen.

In 1925, the nursery business stopped and the trees and perennials of the arboretum have, over time, been allowed to care for themselves, so that today the place appears as a “game garden”. At the entrance to the Paradise Garden is a small exhibition attached where visitors are welcome and can read more about the place.

In the immediate vicinity you will find a very different “dramatic” forest area, where suddenly a high, steep gorge at about 35 meters height opens. According to an old legend, the Swedes hid here for the Gjøhøvdingen during the war in 1660. Hence the name, “The Swedish Gorge”.

Free entry.

Adresse:
Hesed forest. From Næstved-Rønnede country road (route 54) is driven by Villa Gallinavej through Hesede forest. Parking by the parking lot with signage for Paradishave and the Swedish gorge.
